Kickapoo Rail Trail

My first trail ride from near the Vermilion County Fairground to the west edge of Oakwood. Very nice ride. Nice scenery along the route. I only wish it was completed so I could go all the way to Urbana.

Sugar Creek Trail (IN)

Excellent Venue

October, 2024 by jwelch4

On a business trip I was able to ride two evenings. Beautiful early fall foliage along the way. Asphalt pavement is smooth and a short gravel run along the old railway. Beautiful crossing of Sugar creek on a wooden bridge structure is a sure place to stop and enjoy the view. Well maintained. Multiple sightings of deer, squirrels, and geese. I will definitely return and bring a road bike or mountain bike.

Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

June 30 - Thorntown to Colfax

July, 2024 by kevin.gruneisen

Rode the Big 4, parking at Thorntown, riding to Colfax and back. The ride was roughly 6 miles one way with limited elevation. The asphalt path is good, a little bumpy out of Thorntown but smooths out for a nice ride. The path was cluttered with vegetation following the storms the day before. This part of the path is well covered providing good shade and wind block. Be sure to notice the birdhouses tucked into the trees as you near Colfax. Enjoy.

Nice Solitary Ride!

June, 2024 by gregmclochlin

I’m an EBiker, and LOVE the solitude! Smooth, paved trail with very short paths invaded by fairly low tree roots. I stopped for lunch at STOOKLEYS which I HIGHLY recommend! Yum! I started in Colfax, at the trail end, and went almost to Lebanon, then turned back, (out and back.) BEAUTIFUL DAY!!

Vandalia Trail

June 10, 2024 Starting @ Amo, Indiana is a nice trail head with water and clean bathrooms. Heading West in Hendricks County is a well maintained asphalt path. I do t remember any breaks or bad spots like other trails where tree roots have caused the asphalt to buckle. The ride west takes you out of Hendricks County and into Putnam County. The ride (about 4 miles) is tree lined and well protected. When you cross the county line the path switches to crushed rock, maybe limestone. Regardless, it is easy to navigate. I’ve ridden a lot of trails outside of Chicago and am used to this type of path. In 3.5 miles is Filmore and turned to head back. Great ride. Highly recommended.

Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

pretty nice trail

June, 2024 by giannopolis

Started at Colfax park and rode through Thorntown to Lebanon. After a break, rode back to starting point. Right at 30mi roundtrip. Sections of trail inside town limits were very bumpy from roots. Probably older original trail sections. Rural sections newer and smooth.

Hamrick Station Trail

Coyotes on the trail ,use caution with small pets.

May, 2024 by patriciabalderas10

I'm just passing this along I found it on the Green Castle chatter . It was post by
Dena Mancuso Ferguson.

I was walking my dogs on the Hamrick Station Trail off Manhattan rd. Around the 1 mile mark there are some coyotes likely w pups. My dogs briefly tussled w one and I was able to call them off. As I was walking back another one popped out of the woods and started barking at us. I yelled at it and it went back in the woods. I wanted to give a heads up. I have big dogs and they’re fine but a smaller dog could get hurt.

Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

It’s not bad

May, 2024 by jawinner

As with most rail trails, this one has tons of invasives. Seems like it was in need of mowing and pruning the sides. It’s asphalt the entire way now which is nice. The bumps are not terrible, and the worst ones are painted in orange. It’s definitely worth doing once if you are from out of the area like me. However it doesn’t have a lot of features compared to some other trails I have been on. For some reason I prefer the Nickel Plate and Converse/Sweetser trails northeast of here. Still 4 out of 5 stars for me.

Big 4 Trail (Lebanon to Colfax)

Lovely

Great trail. A few bumps from tree roots but mostly smooth. It was very windy the day we rode but enough trees to provide a nice wind break. Started in Colfax-nice parking area. Didn’t notice a restroom. Thorntown got a little confusing to pick up trail but we figured it out. Great photo op Big 4 Trail painted mural under overpass.

Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail

This trail is well maintained. Lots of birds and wildlife. I rode the trail on a Friday afternoon in late March (62 degrees) and there were 5 other folks riding and walking. It is a flat trail that runs through mostly farm land. ¿

Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail

Nice trail surface, not much else

March, 2024 by keckler

The trail surface is smooth asphalt. Except for the first and last miles, it is also essentially seamless. Great.

The scenery is pretty much nothing, and there isn't really anything along the way. The eastern portion is more scenic than the western, passing over a couple ravines of tributaries to the Embarras river.

Great trail for a workout.
